Most old houses in Amsterdam are built very narrow, and as a tour guide told us, this was due to the fact that taxes have been calculated on the basis of how large a house was. Less it was large, less people paid in taxes.

While wandering through the city center, i've passed by these houses. I particular like the way the new house is fitted in. It takes up main characteristics of an old house, like two two entrance doors, which can seen on many of the old houses. It's narrow, as an old house, but the overall style is modern nevertheless but without being shocking.

I appreciate this kind of mixing new with old, it shows a big sensibility of the owner and the architect to preserve the architectural caracteristics of the city.
