Zaha Hadid was born in Bagdad (1950). She trained maths at the American University of Beirut (1968 - 1971) and studied architecture at the Architectural Association School (AA) in London, UK (1972 - 1977).
The first of her major projects to be built was the fire station for the Vitra furniture factory at Weil am Rhein, Germany (1993).
