Back in July, the editor in chief from an italian magazine contacted me via Flickr and asked if i wanted to publish my kitchen remodel. Of course !!So, here it is, in the november edition of Casa Facile.I'm sooo proud of this ! Why ? Because it is my first "real" project, after two years of evening school in interior design. The first project which i did all by myself, from drawing the floorplans, researching suppliers, materials and companies for the big works, over to organizing and supervising the whole thing. This article is a reward to the result of my work !Thank you so much at Casa Facile, especially Giusi Silighini ( editor in chief ) and Claudio Malaguti ( text ) for the wonderful article, thank you so much !Libellés : Apartment Therapy Cure 1/07, Do-It-Yourself, Homes in Switzerland, Self-Promotion

Past thursday the missing door arrived and has been installed on friday evening. The whole apartment has been cleaned yesterday from all the dust, the remaining stuff has been put or thrown away and i feel again at home.
As the worktop is plain wood, i still have to oil it for another couple of months about twice a week, but that's quickly done.
I'm so pleased with the result !
What do you think of it ?!

I love this little breakfast-bar. Done with simple things and easy to do by yourself.

kitchen gone

On thursday, the old fuse box has been taken out of the wall ( which will disappear ) and a temporary fuse box has been installed.
On friday, the plumber has cut off the water and gaz in the kitchen.
And today, the old kitchen was taken out, except for the fridge, in only two hours time! The whole furniture and stove has been put to the recycling center. I didn't expect that it could be done so fast.
I've plastered already the screw-wholes in the walls, and the kitchen is empty, i only kept the fridge until the new one will be delivered.
Tomorrow i'll have to mark the "destruction-lines" as monday morning the workers will pull down the walls of the former closet.
So far, everything's going fine, no mayor problems! Keep the fingers crossed!

It feels less claustrophobic.

Inspiring, when i look at the photos posted on Flickr.
Helpful, when reading the problems and struggles of other participants, or when having a problem myself.
Motivating, as everybody has a low point from time to time, where you think that nothing is progressing.
So, a little update of last weeks 'work':
- i've started sorting through my kitchen stuff and to pack things up i won't need the next month
- filled up and emptied my Outbox
- filled up again the Outbox
- had another look for better prices on the washer i want to buy
- scheduled a meeting with all the different contractors in order to establish a timetable
- re-made my plans according to some minor changes
During the threads, we noticed that to avoid the unhappy feeling of ahving little accomplished, it is better , psychologically speaking, to list up WHAT we have already done. And you get a view of the fact that all of us have come far since the beginning. This way of ( positive ) thinking really helps, and gives you another push of motivation!

Originally uploaded by 36metres-carres.I've received all the price quotations by now, just have to clarify one point tomorrow with the plumber and then i'll send back the offers. And off it goes !
Today, i started sorting through my stuff in the kitchen, filling up the Outbox and packing up what i won't need for the next few weeks.
It feels quite relieving to let go of stuff, things i've kept for sentimental reasons but not using them anymore.
It made me also become aware of how taste changes during the years, things i've found very cool and hip years ago, don't please me anymore, and they have been replaced by others which are more at my taste and style today.

Originally uploaded by 36metres-carres.Past week the electrician and plumber passed to give a price quotation for the work that needs to be done. I've already the quote from the electrician and hope i'll receive the one from the plumber this week.
Talking with both of them also gave me a more claer idea about the "flow" of the work, that means that both of them need to come several times according to the advance the work is taking. Now i'm trying to find a professional to pull down the wall closet in the kitchen, but this seems to be more difficult. I 've called a company, but they were fully booked, and redirected me to another. I'm waiting for this one to call me back.
I might paint the kitchen myself, so i think that i will paint as well the ceiling of my bathroom, which is painted right now in a petrtol-blueish color. My bathroom is very dark, though it has white tiles, but there really is very lilltle light now. The electrician will fix new lights there, and by painting the ceiling in a glossy white, it will solve a bit more of this problem. I hope.
Well that's the current state of things, this upcoming week i hope to able to find somebody for the closet, i'll might already buy the fridge and start to clean out the cupboards in the kitchen. I also will start to clean out my cupboard in the office room and buy a new closet for it, as i need a space to put my vacuum. It's now stored in the big closet in the kitchen, but there won't be any space for it once the kitchen is finished.

Originally uploaded by 36metres-carres.At the beginning of the year i was writing about my plans for my appartment. I'm planning to re-do my kitchen, as it is old, not practical and the appliances are arriving at an end-of-life-state. There is very little counterspace. My kitchen also has on one wall a huge closet, but i decided to get rid of it.
The floorplan is done, and i did quite a lot of research for new appliances ( stove, fridge, washing machine ) and for the furniture. Now, i'm in the phase of asking offers for the work that needs to be done. Next week an electrician and a plumber will come over to have a look and quote a price. I'm still looking for an "allrounder" who takes down the closet walls, takes down the old kitchen, paints( eventually, but maybe i'll do it myself ) and mounts / installs the new furniture and counterspaces.
As i'm a huge fan of Appartment Therapy, i decided to join the Cure which started this monday. I'll post regularly on the progress, once i have the price quotations it should go quite quick.
The upcoming week i'll go to Habitat & Jardin in Lausanne, a show where all the suppliers of appliances, furniture, decoration and so on, will be present. Sometimes you'll be able to get some special discount if you buy at the show. It's always good to save some money...
